Who has been the biggest influence on your life? What lessons did that person teach you?
My brother has been a huge influence and inspiration in my life, at an early age he became addicted to prescription pills and narcotics. I watched him self-destruct for over ten years, I watched him be arrested and go in and out of rehab. I wanted to help him so bad but through this I learned that addiction is one of the hardest things to overcome. My brother taught me how to be strong, open minded, understanding and see the best in people no matter what they are going through. I am so proud to say that today my brother has been sober for two years and is getting married to an awesome girl next year that accepts his past and loves him like we all hope to be loved.
How has your life been different than what you’d imagined?
Growing up I dreamed of being a model (probably like every other little girl). After I went through my tomboy stage you wouldn’t catch me without heels on. Well, I did get the chance to do a couple modeling things but not to the level I dreamed of as a little girl
What are the most important lessons you’ve learned in life?
By far the most important lesson that I’ve learned is to treat people the way I want to be treated. I see so much hate in the world and it scares me for my children. I’ve also learned to be grateful for what you have; materialistic things do not make you happy and Biggie got it right “Mo money Mo problems.” I’ve learned that you can’t trust everyone, which I struggle with because I believe in everyone and see the good even though I’ve been burned so many times.
How would you like to be remembered?
I would like to be remembered as just a small town girl trying to make it in a big world. I don’t always say the right things but I’m honest and loyal which I believe are some of the most important traits to have.
For your great great grandchildren reading this years from now: is there any wisdom you’d want to pass on to them?
To my great great grandchildren, Dream big and follow through. Do not let anyone or anything come in between you and that dream because you are stronger than you think. People will knock you down but get right back up and prove them wrong. Pick your friends wisely because if you hang around garbage you start to stink.
