Ben Sherrill

Infrastructure Manager
I have an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration and recently received my first of many to come Cisco Certifications. In my spare time...wait who am I kidding I have two young kids 7 and 3,  who has spare time with 2 kids running around. However when I do have a second or two, I’m usually wrapped up either watching, coaching or playing in some sporting event, whether it be Softball/Flag Football with the Gulf Winds team, or coaching Little League Baseball.

After working for Dynegy Energy as a trade floor technician, traveling for Shell/Pennzoil throughout the U. S eastern seaboard as well as Canada and Mexico as a migration specialist, working as a Systems/Network Administrator for AkzoNobel/Albemarle Catalysts, I’ve landed here at Gulf Winds where over the last 7 years I have been able to grow my working knowledge in the I.T field. My main goal each day is to make sure that all communications (phones, computers, etc.) throughout Gulf Winds locations are up and running as efficiently as possible. One of the many reasons I like working here at Gulf Winds is the variation in skill sets I have to use each day. One day I may need to sit down and configure a router for a new location so their computers and phones will have connection to all of the other sites. The next day I just might be pulling out a tape measure and figuring out how we can squeeze just one more room in so we can have another office. In sports terms I guess I’d be known as a 5 tool player.

How you got into this line of work?

When I was 18 I was given an opportunity to work on a helpdesk supporting Hughes Networks. From that day forward I grew my skill set, working as a Tier 2 Tech, a helpdesk specialist, and eventually moving into the field of managing Systems and Networking.

What’s your favorite part of your job?

There is almost always something new to learn each day. Learning new things keeps the brain active.

What is one goal you’d like to accomplish during your lifetime?

Provide the best life for my family possible.

If you had to describe yourself using three words, it would be...

  • Motivated
  • Driven
  • Versatile

What does your future hold?

If I knew the answer to this question life would be dull. The future holds surprises, ups and downs.  Hopefully more ups than downs.
